My first ATX RD meeting included a discussion on one of my main topics of interest, Sports Nutrition, by RD Lauren Hartmen. Though I was somewhat familiar with the topic from my time working and interning with the Sports Dietitians for The University of Texas Athletics, the talk furthered my understanding on the topic. The complexity of creating meal plans for each individual athlete was impressive. Lauren taught us all how to tailor meal plans based on individual sports as well as the varied positions within those sports. She also discussed tactics on how to encourage athletes to comply with meal plans and diet changes by focusing on how it would help their performance.
