During undergrad I got the opportunity to intern for The University of Texas Athletics Sports Nutrition department. While interning I completed various tasks such as hydration testing, stocking fuel stations, handing out recovery fuel, assisting with weigh-ins and weigh-outs, assisting in hydration of athletes during training camp, monitoring football meal attendance compliance, and more. After just a semester of interning, I was offered a paid position as a Fuel Station Manager and I jumped at the chance. This opportunity defined my love for nutrition while teaching me what I wish I knew when I was an athlete. By combining a love for nutrition and sports, I was able to understand more about my body as well as how to fuel it and then apply this to others. It gave me an in depth understanding of the combination of working out and eating properly. These lessons are those that will follow me in any position I take once I am officially a Registered Dietitian. As a Fuel Station Manager, I was responsible for ordering and receiving product, training new interns, ensuring all tasks were covered by either interns or myself, checking quality of fuel stations, stocking and distributing products, assisting with nutrition educations, and more. The position gave me insight to the multiple tasks a Dietitian must complete besides nutrition counseling. They provided me opportunity for further learning and whole lot of memories. I am forever grateful for my time with the sports nutrition department and hope to one day return to working with athletes.
